Prof. (Mrs.) Fuastina Oware-Gyekye (Member)

Prof. Faustina Oware-Gyekye (Mrs.) was educated at the Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast, Nurses Training College, Kumasi, Midwifery Training School, Korle-Bu and University of Ghana, Legon. She had post graduate course in leadership and management from Tuffs University, Medford.

USA during the 1998/99 academic year. Mrs. Oware-Gyekye taught midwifery at the Midwifery Training School, Korle-Bu, supervised and taught nursing and midwifery students at both undergraduate and post graduate levels at the University of Ghana where she worked as a clinical instructor, lecturer, senior lecturer and the head of department for the Adult Health, School of Nursing before retiring from the services of the University in 2008.

She has published many academic papers, articles and manuals on health related issues. She has also attended a number of conferences, seminars and workshops both in and outside Ghana. Whilst at the University of Ghana, she established community based project on the productive health programmes at the School of Nursing for the students of University of Ghana and the surrounding second and tertiary institutions.

Mrs. Oware-Gyekye is a member of several professional bodies. She was a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (2004-2008). She is currently the Chair Person for the West African College of Nursing (Ghana Chapter), Chair Person for the Maternal and Child Health Faculty of the West African College of Nursing, an external assessor for the West African College of Nursing, sub-editor for the West African College of Nursing Journal, a member of the Editorial Board of the Ghanaian Nurse, and a member of The National Adolescent Resource Team.

She has worked as a consultant for the development of curricula for a number of nursing and midwifery schools in the country. She is currently an external examiner for the Departments of Nursing, Cape Coast University and Valley View University.
